So You Want To Go Viral, But Let Me Ask You First, What Content Goes Viral!!!


One of the ironies of the Internet is that when you write, create or produce…you name your things you expect people to read, watch or listen, nobody gives them attention. Well, I am kinda in the same situation, but you know what’s the difference between me and you? I take action and you don’t. Or maybe you are. Wile, I must say, I mastered this wise equation called the compound effect. Things slowly snowballs, you just need to master the patience. 1 Year, 5 years, 10 years, 28 years. I am quite alright with that. Are you? I don’t think so. Or maybe I am wrong. Maybe, indeed you are more patient than me.

This remembers me ”Gloria” a French girl we meet…some time ago. She was a BA Flight Attendant. Married, 1 child, a nice husband, wile I was a university boy living by my own with a day job in a restaurant, making sandwiches all day. We both challenge a patience for sex (or for sandwiches), even if we liked each-other disparately, texting, mailing, exchanging fruitful content, wile I must say after 41 days..we fuck the un-fucking settled from our minds. Obviously we failed at that promise. You don’t get ‘a la carte desert in France, if pudding lacks the ingredient called sugar. 41 days without sugar….one of a desert must be.

But you know what? When you write or produce a piece of content, can be music or writing a book or crafting an item, or starting your own business things you’re a little hesitant to share (because they reveal something vulnerable…or a story about you…something interesting that will be about to happen..), everybody reads them. You get me? So, the point is…

The more honest the content, the more it gets shared, the more it gets read, the more it gets attention, the more you get attention.


Let’s talk then.

Let’s speak a little about Advertising and Marketing. Why? Well, everything you do in life is pretty much about selling. No matter what you do, you want attention isn’t it?

So, what I find so interesting about advertising and marketing is that big brands, major companies, small startups and everything in-between spend a stupid amount of money creating content that isn’t honest. It’s all mostly stock photos, videos, animated crap. Dry, like a plant begging for water.

It’s promotional and thats it. It’s an ad. It doesn’t have any of the human qualities that so clearly define every viral video, article, song, podcast, or movie. Well, I get it. It does the job in a way or other. The masses are swallowing that anyway. Feed a man a fish when theres no fish for days. He will gladly eat it. Any day.

Yet, they say in their meetings, ‘We want to be known as honest. Transparent. Authentic. Yea, yea I get it…that’s a good word — authentic. We want our ads to be that…haha.

They, then shell out thousands, hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars attempting to make something that appears authentic, only to sit back and scream, ‘Why isn’t this going viral? Why isn’t press picking this up? Why isn’t anyone sharing this?’ What’s happening.


Do you know who the most-viewed influencers on the Internet are? I’ll tell you now in 80 seconds, to wrap this up quick. 


The people who attract the most attention are the ones who take a small piece of their heart and say, ‘Here mate, I’m giving this to you. It is what it is, some of you will like it, some of you won’t. But I’m giving it to you anyway. Because it’s me. Sorry, that’s all I have.

When you done that, things takes a huge impact the way they flow to the reader, listener…you name it. And I tell you why.

Number 1. Life’s pretty fucking hard for most. You know, bills, unemployment, working here — working there. Trying to survive that goal just between the beats like the wonderful Nina Kraviz once said ‘ The Highs and Lows of Life’s, Tells the Story When Music Does Not Play’s It’s Story ‘. In this case, your story, when the ‘Goal’ does not play. Or I shall say ‘does not move towards its play’.

Number 2. Still talking about who attract the most attention. Who? I can keep telling you who. The teenagers who make videos in their bedroom that accumulate tens of millions of views on YouTube.

The garage musicians who sing and you can’t help but listen.

The writers who remind you what it feels like to be afraid of something.

The artists, The DJ’s that show you what emotion looks like. And here I will like to pay tribute to the late Tim Bergling or by his moniker as you knew it, Avicii

The Start-up Entrepreneur whose voice rings with so much conviction, you can’t help but be inspired.

The video makers who can take something so complicated and summarise it in just a few shots. Is that simple.

The unknown or known public speaker who say what everyone is thinking but no one wants to admit to. Do you admit it?

The talk show hosts that always wished to talk, and yet they keep talk, and still, they make a guest feel so comfortable. Who’s their guests? The audience that started from their bedroom, they shared a story with you, they’ve never shared before in their entire life. In you entire life.

Do you know what all these people have in common? I’ll tell, in under 30 seconds. 

They were honest.They were story tellers. And you can be that too.

When you make something that is trying hard to stand out, it blends in to the noise. It kinda starts to having a hard time to click.

But when you make something that reveals some sort of human truth, and is executed in a way where the person on the other side of the screen, decks, name it, I can feel it..Do you feel it?  And that’s how it goes viral.

Piece of music, Piece of Video, A piece of Written Words, Item Crafted,  Thought..YOU NAME IT.

If is honest and has a story to tell. Then you just clicked on the correct button.
